Attendees may earn 1 NYS PDH at this event.

The 17 MGD Pittsfield, MA WWTP was upgraded to include North America’s Largest CoMag Ballasted Flocculation Process at a municipal Water Resources Recovery Facilities for Total Phosphorous (TP) removal.  The system, which was designed to achieve limits for TP of 0.1 mg/L and aluminum of 0.171 mg/L, was commissioned in fall 2021.  In addition to the construction of the tertiary treatment process in a new building, the upgrade at the WWTP included: Conversion of the secondary treatment process into a Ludzack-Ettinger process, conversion of one of the trickling filters into a wet weather tank, and construction of new sludge handling facilities. The presentation will include design details on the water treatment technology selection and process design, construction details like the building pile support system, squircle-shape tank construction, and sequencing of the process to maintain operations of the plant.
