022124 CSCE Meeting at UNH

Wednesday, February 21, 2024 - 05:30 PM

This monthly CSCE dinner meeting is co-sponsored by the CT Chapter of the ASCE Transportation & Development Institute and the ASCE Student Chapter at the University of New Haven and it features a presentation by David Jacobs, Ph.D., on the topic of Challenges for Achieving High Speed Rail in the United StatesWe’ve all heard of the famous bullet trains in Japan, and the reliable, luxurious high speed passenger trains in China and Western Europe. So naturally we in the United States wonder, and always ask: Why can’t our country have high speed train service like that? That is a legitimate question! It turns out that there are many reasons: financial, political, social, historical, technical, and others. David Jacobs, Ph.D., will explore these reasons and explain why it is extremely unlikely that we’ll see high speed passenger trains, if ever, in this country and especially here in Connecticut. His talk will be supplemented with a PowerPoint presentation to clearly illustrate these reasons.
