101524 CSCE Dinner Meeting at CT State Three Rivers
Please join CSCE at our monthly meeting at CT State Community College Three Rivers, Norwich, CT, on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. At this meeting, Jim Cole, P.E., MBA, PMP, Vice President of Projects at Avangrid, will give a presentation on the importance of civil and structural engineers in every aspect of the design and construction of high power electrical systems. From the grading & site preparation, subsurface trenching, and foundation work to the above ground buildings, transformers, steel structures, towers and lines, it all relies on civil and structural engineering. Structural and civil engineers play important roles in the planning, design and construction phases of Avangrid's major projects and some of its most recent and large scale projects completed in Maine, Connecticut and New York will be highlighted. One (1) New York State PDH will be offered at this meeting. This meeting is co-sponsored by the CT Chapter of the ASCE Structural Engineering Institute and CT State Community College Three Rivers in Norwich, CT.
Jim Cole, P.E., MBA, PMP, is the Vice President of Projects at Avangrid, Inc. (NYSE: AGR), a global energy company and subsidiary of Iberdrola, S.A. headquartered in Orange, Connecticut, with approximately $46 billion in assets and operations in 24 states. Avangrid has two primary lines of business: networks and renewables. Through its networks business, Avangrid owns and operates eight electric and natural gas utilities, serving more than 3.3 million customers in New York and New England. Jim, who has led the Projects department in Avangrid’s networks business for more than 7 years, oversees a team of more than 300 people to build major capital projects for transmission lines and substations for service areas in upstate New York, greater Rochester, southcentral Connecticut, and much of Maine.
Throughout his 30 years with Avangrid and its Connecticut subsidiary, United Illuminating (UI), Jim has managed all aspects of transmission, distribution, and substation operations and engineering for the company. Jim earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Haven in 1998 and his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of New Haven in 2008. He is also a Connecticut-certified Professional Engineer (P.E.).

To get to the room from the main entrance, go past the security desk down the hall of the C Wing to the end. Take a right into the F Wing and the Multi-Purpose Room (F117) will be on your left.

From New London:
Follow Route 32 to I-395. Take Exit 11 (old Exit 80). At the end of the exit ramp turn right.**

From Groton/Mystic:
Follow I-95 south to Route 32 – Norwich. Take I-395 north to Exit 11 (old Exit 80). At the end of the exit ramp turn right. **

From Colchester and points West:
Follow Route 2 east until it merges with Route 32 south. Take Exit 28S onto I-395 south to Exit 11 (old Exit 80). Take a left at the end of the Exit ramp (Route 82 West Main Street).**

From Jewett City and points North:
Take I-395 south to Exit 11 (old Exit 80). Take a left at the end of the exit ramp (Route 82 West Main Street).**

From Ledyard/Navy Sub Base area:
Follow 2A (Mohegan Pequot Bridge) to I-395 north. Take Exit 11 (old Exit 80) At the end of the exit ramp turn right. **

From New Haven and points south:
Take I-95 north to I-395 north (exit 76). Take I-395 north to Exit 11 (old Exit 80). At the end of the exit ramp turn right. **

Go five lights down to New London Turnpike. Turn right. The Three Rivers campus is about .2 miles on left.
Parking Directions:
It is open parking at the College after 5 p.m. Please park near the main entrance of the building, which is located along the East Campus Roadway and near the bookstore and the A Wing of the building. The main entrance to the building is shown on the right side of the campus map.
Room Location:
The meeting will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room, F117. To get to the room from the main entrance, go past the security desk down the hall of the C Wing to the end. Take a right into the F Wing and the Multi-Purpose Room (F117) will be on your left.
