Monthly Dinner Meeting at UConn

Wednesday, September 13, 2017 - 05:30 AM

Co-Sponsors: Construction Technical Group and the ASCE Student Chapter at UConn

Topic: Construction and Lessons Learned: Maintenance of Way Facility at the New Haven Rail Yard

The Maintenance of Way facility is one of many projects for the New Haven Rail Yard expansion and improvements program. Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is revitalizing and expanding the existing New Haven Rail Yard (NHRY) into a state-of-the-art, coordinated facility that provides efficient and effective storage, dispatching, inspection, maintenance, and cleaning of rail cars. These facilities improvements will provide the space, equipment, and administrative support needed to operate and maintain a new generation of rail cars and will coordinate new facilities with existing facilities. CTDOT's program will support rail transit services in the state of Connecticut well into the twenty-first century.

The new Maintenance of Way facility will house all of the Metro-North departments (Track, Structures, Power and Communications & Signals (C&S), including Radio Maintainers) that maintain the yard and New Haven main line infrastructure. This was CTDOT's pilot project for delivery by Construction Management at Risk.

Mr. Mendick and Mr. Dzagan will review construction highlights and discuss lessons learned in the context of CTDOT's review of the project.
