Last August, several members of Ole Miss Chapter of Engineers Without Borders traveled to Togo to do an assessment for the potential of doing a deep water well project. The project appears feasible, provided that we receive funds from Rotary International to pay a driller and other contractors to do the work.  The Rotary grant is very likely. Ther Alternatives Analysis report, which provides some background can be found here.

The next step is to have another assessment trip, in August 2015 or January 2016, to meet with drilling companies again, observe their current work, set well specifications, obtain quotes, and vet a local engineer/geologist who can represent the owner during the weeks of well drilling.  For this next step, we need to bring someone experienced in deep water well drilling (220 meters approximately).  This would be a one-week trip, with potential to return in the future for a portion of the actual drilling and other follow-up activities.  If you are interested in assisting with this effort, please contact Cristiane Queiroz Surbeck, P.E., Ph.D., ENV SP.

Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI) members should have received an email from [email protected] with a link to the ballot to vote for EWRI’s vice president.  This position leads to a four-year commitment to the EWRI Governing Board as vice president, president elect, president, and past president.  Dr. Cristiane Queiroz Surbeck an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Coordinator with The University of Mississippi is one of the candidates, and would enthusiastically like to represent you to the EWRI Board and represent EWRI to the world.  If you did not receive the email from directvote.net and you are an EWRI member, the email may have gone to your junk mail folder.

The candidates’ profiles can be found at the links below:
